Sounds like a classic case of putting the cart before the horse. Maybe cyclists should be encouraged to ride in a more calm and defensive manner, and not to position themselves on the nearside of lorries at traffic lights.

Mark Wadsworth nails it here:

"London would manage just fine if nobody ever used a bicycle again, ban lorries and we're screwed."

It seems all to do with what cyclists and Brake always criticise motorists for: wanting to get in front.

If cyclists just waited in line of traffic like everyone else then their safety would be enhanced. Because they seek to get ahead of the traffic by weaving to the front they place themselves in unnecessary danger. The same applies to some extent to motorcycles the riding of which is something like 50x more hazardous than a car.

I still can't think of another activity promoted by the Government which is known to increase the danger to its population.

Driving?

Without driving there would be no movements of goods and we'd all rapidly starve.

Driving?

You think driving is "promoted" by the Government? Quite the reverse.
