Fog and Mist

In fog an mist cylcists are particularly at risk. Use lights  – but be aware that your lights will not be as clear as in normal night time.

Keep a wee bit closer to the road edge than normal – as it helps you follow the road a bit better. Keep speed down as being closer to the edge brings you closer to grids and debris and keep a good distance between self and other road users . :?

Use your ears!

Again fog affects brakes on a bike – so you have to allow a greater stopping distance Remember fog and fine rain cause salt from face to eyes so keep a tissue handy.

Yes - use your ears but remember that fog deadens sound.

Fog means 98% relative humidity so wrap up warm - it'll feel cold even if the ambient temperature is relatively high. Breathable clothes are a good idea as your sweat has great difficulty in evaporating into the surrounding air.

Freezing fog is particularly nasty - you'll know because ice will form on your bike as you go along. It may well be doing the same on the road surface.

If you wear specs (I do) have something handy to wipe the moisture off from time to time.
