Will be launched next month per article in today's "Express" paper. :)

The site is launched in conjunction with the Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust - registered charity whose sole interest is promoting safe cycling and of course - the wearing of a helmet

The Trust - along with 8 year old Harry Landymore - are seeking an amendment to a Road Safety Bill currently going through debate in Commons to make it a legal requirement for cyclists under age 14 to wear a helmet when cycling or in bike seat or trailer.

The Landymore's decided to tell their story in the press to prevent others going through their experience. Per the article on page 41 of the paper - young Harry was out with his Mum and brother and sister. When his 5 year old brother got tired of riding - Harry jumped on his bike. A car came in sight and his mother called to him to be careful - but as the young chap turned to look for the traffic - his bike hit a pothole :( and he fell off  - bumping his head.

At first (per the paper) H seemed OK - but later that night his Mum noted swelling around his eyes and took him to A&E where X-ray also showed no damage but the youngster was kept overnight for observation.

Good call!

Young Harry fell asleep and when the consultant tried to waken him - he vomited violently  and the consultant ordered an immediate CT scan - and they found the youngster needed urgent surgery due to head injuries sustained in the fall.

Operation was successful :) and almost 12 hours later the lad was eating a hearty meal in hospital :D .

However, he missed two months school and still has to be protected from any knock or bump to his head. Worse - he still has flashbacks to the incident - which was no one's fault. (Though arguably the council should have repaired the potholes! )

Still - the experience has apparently prompted young Harry to warn others of dangers of not wearing a helmet as he reckons this would have given some protection to the side of his head in the fall.

For anyone interested in finding out more about what this bunch is about  - Express has given phone number of the Bicycle Helmet Initiative Trust: 0118 958 3585.

PS - our kids do wear helmets as do we - and in this weather - keeps you warm!
