On 29 January a documentary about the late great Tom Simpson is to be screened at the Riverside Studios, Hammersmith.
"Wheels Within Wheels" (shot on handycam) by Lee Shale and "Star Wars" actor Simon Dutton was 4 years in the making becuase of other commitments - but per reports - this is a personalised account, , mixing humour, pathos and facts, - almost a "pilgrimage" in search of this British legend (world cycling champ) who died during the 1967 "Tour de France" I recall a short news "documentary" on the anniversary of his death - part of "NewsNight" druring the 2005 "Tour" and it really spelled out the sheer level stamina required for the alpine stages of these events. (These are then not rides for the inexprienced and sedentary "cyclists" to undertake on "whims"
)
Was a schoolboy at the time - but I do remember reading about it and seeing it on the news.
The "Riverside" will also be showing "Notbook from the Tour" - a 40 minute sketch by Ray Pascoe and a preview from "Hell ofn Wheels" - a two hour film following "T-Mobile on the 2003 "Tour".
Venue if in London and interested: Riverside Studios, Crisp Road, Hammersmith
Tickets £5.50 from Box Office on 020 8237 1111.
I gather the films will later be released on DVD.
