Most roads are pretty dirty at the moment but I'd like to nominate the road from Kilburn towards Bagby, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire, for the title of the "Filthiest Road 2006". The sh...you know what goes on for about 4 miles. It was like this 2 weeks ago and it hasn't got any better without any rain either. Mudguards with front mudflap does most of the business for me but I wouldn't fancy an MTB with no guards OK, there'a a lot of ploughing going on around Thirsk at the moment but not in the vicinity of this road.

This isn't a single track country lane that doubles as a farmyard next to a farm like a lot of them do.

Road around Applethwaite and Millbeck would get my vote...

Also my sister tells me that her car is filthy from each journey to and from her home in leafy 'burb of Manchester to school in Bolton - and have one brother who travels from leafy Sussex village to bigger Sussex town and his car is caked in mud....and grit....

Neither fancy riding their bikes in these conditions and at 11 miles and 20 miles respectively - both very capable of the distance .. but one teaches and the other's an computer wally/nerdy type ...... and sister has class loads of marked exercise books and lesson plans to cart around .. and he has boxes of files and stuff apparently..... and clients to visit....
