This week's CW has a fairly interesting article about the effects of drink on cycling.

OK - so it's more TRAINING focused - but basically one of the key things for cyclists and drivers to realise is that alcohol is a diuretic - Wildy and Mad Doc can say more than I can on this - but basicallly CW is saying that the body is not just getting rid of the fluids consumed - but esential body fluids - which is why booze does not quench thirst I guess - and why some drink more than they should or even realise ...

CW says that the fluid loss from the blood means blood thckens and this places stress on the heart's pumping mechanism - and this makes us sluugish in movement. CW also mentions that Cytokine levels increased and these cehical meseengers cross into the brain and give the groggy feeling Mad Doc could explain this better no doubt as CW says this Cytokine compund is the stuff the body produces in repsonse to one of his lurgies as well.

But help's at hand... CW say researchers at Harvard advocated Marmite and ibuprofen to rediuce hung over symptoms.

Not heard of that one -- now  :? got mental images of drink driver wolfing down jars of Marmite instead of sucking penny pieces in vain hope our gadgets fail to detect .. (whic - h of course they do - detect booze levels ... - would never risk one drink and then drive or ride )

Thanks but I'll stick to a nice greasy burger and a couple of coffees.

EMM - "what do we do with the drunken cyclist , early in the morning?"

Seriously - more a danger to themselves - saw one one night - called cops - he was trying to use his bike to support him in his drunken stagger home - and at that time he was on pavement.
