Per the "MEN" - organisers of a charity ride are furious after a former
Olympic chapm suffered his wost injury in
60 years of cycling
Brian Robinson (now 75) from West Yorks crashed into a pothole and somersaulted over his handlebars.
(Photo of him in full kit .. fully lidded
Have to say - he does not look 75 years .. I'd say in his 60s from the photo ..
)
Anyway the guy went over on Altrincham Road, Sharston, Wythenshawe, Manchester and the arm inury was so severe that tendons and bones were visible to the eye. He is recovering.
Organiser Sue Bodell (ride was from Mirfield, Yorks to Birkenhead - a mere
90 miles is furious.
Sue in Manchester paper wrote:
Witnesses say the dinner plate size pot hole had been in this road for at least 18 months This ride was raising money for the families of the four killed in the recent Rhyl tragedy and this even could have ended up in a nother tragic fatality
Manchester Council declined to comment on the state of this and other roads in the area.
But
Given the rise in KSI stats with regard to cyclists last year - I wonder how many of these were the result of bad road repair.
Perhaps we need another classification of stats as the state of these roads place everyone using them in danger.
These are not "traffic calming measures any more than speed humps"
Bumps and potholes alike in the road are LETHAL - especially pot holed speed humps!
