Driving home from work. Light changes from green to amber; there is a pedestrian to the left. Am quite close but can just stop in time and my ABS would not click in 8-) , even though it is damp. Check mirror, as I do this put foot on my break. See the bloke in the fiesta is closer than I thought he was. He must of thought I was going to go though. So he probably close so he could get though as well   . So I ease of the breaks, I know I am going to cross the line, but I can’t accelerate off. I assume he is breaking as sharp as he can and balance my breaking with him. So I breaking sharply but not so he hits me (if that makes sense?). Eventually come to a stop, with my front wheels over the line, but safe. He kept his distance from then on.

Well done for reading things right given where you'd got to.

It's ever so easy to say this sitting here, and as usual I'm nervous of coming across as a self-righteous so-and-so. In such situations, it is sadly necessary to drive for the one behind you as well as yourself - which you did. However, if you realise you have a root-arse, I find it better to slow much earlier, particularly if the green is stale. This might mean missing the lights that you'd otherwise have made. However, in my experience, either you'd have missed them anyway (and therefore you decouple the problem you experienced even more) or you can be in a low gear and maybe take an opportunity to make them leaving fastard waiting, shaking off your root-arse tail ;-)
