So I'm on the A48 around Newport and I come to a particularly silly, but well marked roundabout. Basically there is a 3 lane entrance, and the routes onto the roundabout are clearly marked with little dots, guiding you onto the roundabout, making a 75 degree left turn and depositing you in one of the 3 lanes on the roundabout itself.

As I approach the rounabout, I move into L2. Waiting to enter in L3 is a little white Fiesta and in L1 is a VW Touareg (warning sign one). I pull alongside and notice kids (7-10) jumping around in the back (warning sign two) and a little old lady with the steering wheel at eye level (warning sign three), telling one of the kids off (warning sign four)

I opt for the cautious approach, entering the roundabout slowly, keeping to the rightmost edge of my allocated lane and double checking before it swings around to the left, and still there were mere inches of gap between my front right corner and the VW Toerag ploughing into my lane. Then I hear heavy braking from my right as the little Fiesta comes to a halt with a similar amount of clearance. The fiesta lays on the horn and I figure what the hell I may as well join in "to alert the other driver to my presence"

If I'd just stuck to my allocated lane and drove normally, they would have gone straight into the side of me and pushed me into the Fiesta creating a nice little pile-up. At it happens we both were fine and got to watch the vehicle drive off and receive middle fingers from the little toerags in the back seat. At the next junction (thankfully a crossroads) me and the Fiesta had swapped lane, and the driver of that car was subjected to an earful of abuse from the Toerag driver. I couldn't make much of it out because the kids were shouting abuse too and I have trouble picking out words when multiple people are talking

I don't believe I did anything wrong (please tell me if I did), but things like this make me despair. Way to bring up your grandchildren.

If you avoid side-by-side driving on roundabouts it simply can't happen. They can drift all they like and you won't get hit.
