I had a near miss today - as a pedestrian.

I walked down the University drive (on the paverment) and as I turned left (still on the pavement) I was forced to leap out of the way of a cyclist who was riding at, I guess, around 15-20 mph down the pavement. He had riden straight across the entrance to the University from one pavement ot the other.

What really annoyed me was the fact that when I went "wooaaa" or similar as I moved to avoid me, he shouted "look where you're f***ing gonig" at me.

This was NOT some student, but a guy around 30, riding a nice bike, and wearing a quality set of weather gear.

He may well have been right in that I did NOT look for something moving at that speed - but I WAS on the pavement in a busy area for pedestrians.

Carry an iron bar and remove the fuckwit's teeth.

..but don't ever, ever, ever suggest that that's how I, or the vast majority of cyclists ride their bikes! (Even by dint of an internet posting...)

A walking stick accidentally placed through the front wheel spokes can be effective

Ok, is this better...

"Carry an iron bar and allow the fuckwit to remove his teeth on it when he runs into you." :D

And I wouldn't dream of doing so, I've been known to ride a bike occasionally myself (fair weather and daytime only, and only short distances mind you).

But I will insist that there is a not insignificant minority of cyclists who do behave just like the T**t who nearly knocked me down. Just like lunatic and "chav" drivers (another not insignificant minority), they give the rest a bad name.
