Speeders identified

Image

Riders who’ve made false claims about who was riding their bike at the time of a speeding offence could be in for a nasty surprise.

Police have refused to rule out checking their riding kit against speed camera pictures and charging them with perjury if they’ve lied in court.

The news came after Thames Valley Police announced a scheme to check speed camera pictures of drivers’ faces against the photos on their driving licenses using computer software.

A Thames Valley Police spokesman said: “This has been used successfully to prosecute people for perjury, if they’ve signed false declarations of who was driving their car.”

Asked whether similar measured could be taken to identify riders from rear-facing photos based on their riding kit, he said: “I can’t rule it out as a possibility.”

Scaremongering?

Yep.....they always make a big noise to try and scare people off.

They may do it one or two times to make a point but is this realy a good use of police resources.........I think not.

Anyhow its a good job I have several "kits" ...just in case

If they can , then why bring in unmarked bikes , as per Police Camera Action (tonight --possibly a repeat ) to specificaly target bikes because the cars can't or cause danger catching them??

OK - scramblers for the off road yobos, but these are high performance road bikes with camera gear

Edit - was another bit about 1/3 of casualties ( think it was accidents) being bikers - usefull thing that 33%

I guess if you look at it logically, the Police spokesperson is hardly going to say...
"Oh no, we'd never do that."
Are they?!

This is bluff and bluster because as we know the photos cannot be used for ID. Secondly - there is no requirement to keep the photo up to date, so they'd get very few matches (maybe new licensed drivers only)

Plus, I wear a balaclava under my helmet (one of two) sometimes and like others, have more than one set of riding kit.

Definitely scaremongering...

Will only take a case of two riders wearing identical kit, with bikes of nearly identical plates to pass a van at different speeds , then split to show up the flaws in this system.
