A FAMILY has paid tribute to a 'wonderful husband and dad' who died after falling from his motorbike while riding through Northumberland's Kielder Forest.

Care worker Alan Young, of Seghill, was with his brother and best friend on the C200 near Bellingham when he fell from his Yamaha motorcycle and skidded under an oncoming car.

The 48-year-old was airlifted to by the Great North Air Ambulance helicopter but later died of his injuries at Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary on Saturday, September 10, last year.
But how the father-of-one – who had ridden the same route for 30 years – fell from his bike remains unexplained.
At an inquest into his death, Newcastle Coroner David Mitford heard evidence from Mr Young’s brother Les who said that while taking a left-hand bend outside the village Alan stopped moving.

Giving evidence he said: “I was aware that Alan was slowing down and he wasn’t using his brakes. I started leaning to my left and could see Alan wasn’t and I thought it was unusual. He seemed to be just sat on his bike and not doing anything.”
PC Paul Johnson, who investigated the crash, said Mr Young was riding at a safe speed but somehow fell and skidded across the road. The driver of the Renault Scenic, whose car he skidded under, was also travelling at the correct speed and safely on his side of the road.
A post-mortem examination revealed Mr Young died of his injuries from the fall but had otherwise been in good health.
Recording a verdict of accidental death, Mr Mitford said: “There was no medical explanation. It’s possible that Mr Young went to sleep, but this happened at 11.30am in the morning and is perhaps less than likely, but one can’t write it off because it might explain why he didn’t ride in a normal way.”

Speaking after the hearing Mr Young’s wife Julia said: “There’s no way he could have fallen asleep. He had been driving for a long time and was a very experienced rider. He was meticulous with his bikes and spent hours on end in the garage cleaning and polishing them so that they looked as though they had just come out of a showroom.
“Alan was a wonderful husband, dad and friend. Our 16-year-old daughter Jennifer has lots of special times to remember as Alan played a very active part in her life.”
Keen biker Alan grew up in Wallsend before starting a job at NEI Parsons as a armature welder. In 2000 he became a care worker for Places for People and staff at the service are now planning on building a garden in his memory.
Julia added: “Whenever and wherever he went he always stopped and talked with fellow bikers and shared stories and experiences. He was chuffed to bits when I started biking with him and we shared many a trip travelling around the North East and Scotland – we did 6,000 miles between April and September last year.”[/quote]There could be many reasons, for this to have happened, a road feature taken badly, or a mechanical failure, something was on or went across the road, or he lost concentration, or an insect flew into his 'lid' or ... or.. sad indeed....
