Well, since no one's posted any pics so far I've decided to show off my two.

The first is a 1988 GPZ500A2 and the second is my baby, my 1979 XS650.

Wow - SS bikers certainly have some serious bits of kit! The last bike I had was a BSA 500 Star Twin with a Watsonian Single Seat Saloon sidecar. That was 1978, it's been 4 wheels ever since.

Bikes we've got in the garage at the moment:

Honda VFR800 FiW (My daily ride, an absolutely wonderful machine, built like a Swiss watch)
BMW R1200 GS (Touring)
Suzuki SV650 (Great fun)
Suzuki RV125 (Great commuter, always gets a look)

Coming soon (2007)

Victory 8-ball (for the other half)
Honda VFR800 VTEC (Apparently Honda have sorted the VTEC glitch on the 06 model)
Yamaha XT660 (Getting into the old off road)

Past members:

MV F4 1000 (Looks 10 - Reliability 0)
Suzuki Bandit 600S (Boring, heavy, and soulless)
Honda CBR-600 (Boring and reliable)
Suzuki GSX-R 600 (Missile)
Suzuki GSX-R 1000 (Bigger missile)

Yes, I like bikes :D

Yeah right
Worse thing they ever did to the VFR was fit VTEC

Waste of time. Believe me as someone who knows.....paint it black or buy new ones made from decent stainless steel is the only way!

I'd agree with the 2002-2005 models, the 7k surge was horrible, but from what people are saying, it's been sorted. Apparently it was an ECU thing, and people are kicking off because Honda have developed the latest ECU in such a way that it's not retro-mountable to the old bikes!

I'd still take the old engine but the new one looks stunning (in both colours!)

Aye, I know what Suzuki build quality is like! The downpipes on my Viffer are starting to rot (I was unfortunate enough to buy the first revision of the 800 which is the only model with mild-steel downpipes :x)

Well, to be fair, the suzuki build quality seems to be very good. My machine has 27000 miles on it, and really looks in first rate condition for its age. I was looking at a 3 year old vfr the other day with 5000 miles and the paint on the wheels was bubbling. Totally unacceptable

The downpipes are made of a poor quality stainless on the TL's. I tried cleaning mine up to polish them but I gave up in the end. Usual poor quality jap fasteners, but they are all like that. The rest of the machine seems well made apart from the design flaws (i mean characteristics).

I would argue that you were unfortunate to buy that VFR as current wisdom seems to have it that that is the best VFR ever made. And that is saying something! :D

Hmm, I think Suzuki build quality has changed a bit since '97 - Both Gixxers I've had rotted through Winter, and the 2 Suzuki's I've got now aren't much better (and that's bike's which are looked after very well!)

From my experience Honda has been far away the best in terms of build quality, but the Suzuki's win on character!

Very, very occasionally.

My wife works in the evening, and does every other saturday with a day off in the week. Its not often she has a Wednesday off, and when she does, I am off to Avebury like a rat up a drainpipe!

I sometimes nip over there at the weekend though, and the favourite routes are marlborough, hungerford, aldbourne, ramsbury

The buggers have just topped the B4192 all the way to hungerford though :censored: :censored:

Where abouts in Swinedown are you?

The downpipes on my 1200 Bandit which I had from new, rusted over it's first winter :( but the reliability and the engine were fantastic. Having said that, my Blackbird is the best bike I've ever owned :D

Typical Honda build-quality, comfy, and so smooth! And apparently it's incredibly fast, so my friends tell me :D
