Not sure whether this link has been posted here before, but this document gives the latest official gudelines for speed camera signing and is therefore a useful one to bookmark or download:

It is interesting in that for fixed cameras it says "there should be a co-located speed limit and camera sign within the same view as the camera (diagrams 670/671 with 878/879, or diagram 880/880.1*)."
