Just been watching the above show online on ITV. The episode focuses on speeding drivers (http://www.itv.com/CatchUp/Video/defaul ... lter=15721) and is full of things to make you scream at the monitor.

1 in 3 of all road deaths are related to speeding...not surprising considering speeding leads to other offences like tailgating.
Hang on...it doesn't follow that if you speed, you tailgate. And vice-versa. I've been tailgated by drivers on or below the speed limit, which was dangerous but not "speeding".

The old 1mph reduction means 5% reduction in crashes one comes out again, too. I still don't quite understand that one...or believe it.

"Some drivers still believe there's a difference between speeding and safe speeding." Surely there is? i.e. travelling 80mph on a clear, clean and dry motorway is safe, certainly safer than 60mph on a wet, busy and windy day on the same stretch.

Some of the examples shown see drivers "dangerously overtaking" on straight stretches of road, in what seem to be dry conditions.

Do the people making these shows actually believe the lies they spout? I'm not saying that speeding through towns is acceptable or that some of the driving shown isn't discraseful, but what I am saying is that the majority of the incidents were down to poor driving (the driver that screeched over the hashed lines to exit the m/way) and not just "speed". This fact seems to be happily ignored, however, and no effort is made to address the real issues. The message seems to be "slow down, and you'll be safer". COAST never gets a look in.

I had an incident today which I feel could have put me on the above show as part of the "maniac driver" collection:
Travelling on a relatively clear A-road, a car was waiting at a junction on my right. As I approached at around 55/60 it pulled out as I was approx 100 yards away. It either hadn't seen me or didn't care! Faced with 2 options - slam on and risk being rear-ended by the car behind, or accellerate around the car (the road ahead was straight and clear) I chose the latter. This took me above the speed limit but I was safely around the vehicle and on my way. I can imagine the commentary now, though "this driver doesn't slow down when others get in his way, instead choosing to speed around obstacles in the face of on-coming traffic". Even if there wasn't any on-coming traffic.

Grrr!

The show is presented by Alistair Stewart - a twice-convicted p!ss artist and professional obnoxious little knob-end.

NOW try to take it seriously...

I seriously wouldn't tire of punching that annoying, condescending, drink driving prick.

Yep, that presenter exudes extreme hypocrisy. He is no longer a suitable person to present that type of show.

I think I preferred it when they had that guy from The Bill presenting it ... can't recall his name.

[nips off for a quick Google]

PC Tony Stamp, AKA Graham Cole, but it was "Police, Stop!", Not "Police, Camera, Alistair".

Handy - that Police Stop programme is still being shown on one of the freeview channels, but I supoose it could be reruns. There are so many of those shows. In addition to the ones mentioned, there's - Road Wars, Street Wars, Cops with Cameras... have I missed any?

Don't think you missed any, but they are all equally bollox.
They generally feature criminals being pursued by the feds, with a narrator commenting on how bad the driving is. Because of course some crook who has just turned over a security van is going to drive like your granny her way to Tesco isn't he?

No doubt get let off with another warning for the GBH on the Security Van driver. Maybe just get 3 points for speeding, driving round a roundabout the wrong way, driving along footpaths etc. and straight into Tesco via the exit. More likely though let off with yet another warning. Of course innocent motorists forced to stop or get out of the way will receive penalty notices and no way get let off.

Often in these shows they say the driver wasn't charged so they usually can't be as bad as they are making out. I often wonder if some of these aren't just staged practice chases purely for the benefit of the TV cameras. A bit more £££$$$ to be made and try and frighten the populace into the bargain.

Do any of these drivers ever get away? They always seem to have been "stopped down the road" :o

I remember seeing a clip on one of these shows of a Russian Twocker being caught by a couple of Fedskis - they heaved him over and dragged him and his mate from the car and proceeded to kick the crap out of the pair of them. Eventually the two miscreants fought free and ran off battered and bleeding. I bet they thought twice about twocking in future after a thrashing like that...

I have to agree, Police, Camera Action does appear to have been hijacked by the politically correct brigade.

One episode had me spitting with rage, so much so that my wife threatened to take away my TV viewing privileges

The presenter says something along the lines of: "Without doubt the biggest killer on rural roads is this" and the camera turns to an NSL sign. What, I can't remember anyone being killed by this sign - what a c**k.

Invariably the programme will progress along the lines of - see how dangerous speeding is as we show some completely unrelated footage of teenage TWOCers fleeing the law, but then we will brainwash you into thinking that they are the same offence as your Gran exceeding a 30mph speed limit by 5mph.

Needless to say I have put in many official complaints to the programme makers about the many glaring factual inaccuracies. I encourage everyone to do the same.

Is there a simple link to the makers of the show Odin?

A web search only shows the monkeys'. If we post anything we'd do better to get the organ grinder.

Good luck with the wife ;)

Sorry for delay, I have no link, and I suspect that I am emailing the monkeys, but I will post the address I have for the makers (name of whom escapes me for the time being) I am away from home right now.

I HATE Police, Camera, Action! I cannot even begin to express my frustration at the rediculous statistics on this television program. I am sure they must just make them up, yet I have seen so many that the correct number of inconsistancies, inaccuracies and only telling part of the story escapes me. All I know is that I have been swearing at the telly to such an extent that I need to remember there are other people around! And the muppet that presents it, jesus christ! And his partner no wonder his surname is "Simpson" :D They must be the most infuriating telly duo.
