Plenty of excellent stuff in the ABD's submission to the House of Commons Transport Committee's inquiry into road safety. Pity the committee chose to largely ignore it and come up with the usual simplistic, headline-grabbing nonsense.

Reading the transcript of the committee's interview with the ABD rep, they seemed to have no grasp of road safety issues and didn't even understand the 85th percentile despite having it described to them three times -- therefore it's not surprising what they came out with.

However, the report could have been worse. It only really mentions "speeding" in relation to 20 mph zones, and doesn't call for huge speed limit reductions everywhere. It does make some good points about drink/drug driving, and lack of traffic police.
