Jomukuk,

You mean these signs are going to be used like they have been, for saying that there is a long delay on a particular road and when you get to the area mentioned there is nothing. I’ve travelled home on the M40 only to be told that there are major holdups on the M6 or M5 yet, when I’ve use either there has been no hold ups. IMO these matrix sign’s are being used to divert traffic and cause hold ups instead of being used to for the purpose they where mean for.

Jomukuk , you say you have spent the majority of your working life in industry and now as a "retirement" job( with very bad health, which makes me wonder how safe you are) you are a van driver who knows far more than truckers who have been doing the job for years and seem to be a road management expert to boot....(why not join the local authority highways dept., you seem to have all the right qualifications for it).

You sem to be bemoaning the fact that you are always being tailgated by HGVs despite the fact that even in a van you could be travelling at least 10MPH faster than them. Tailgating by HGVs, whether driving a van or car, is not something that I experience....could you be doing something wrong???

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

That's a very good question actually. You'll notice there's no reply. But here's another one. jomukuk obviously relies upon the matrix signs to ensure safer driving. Could he lack the initiative? In other words, if he's driving through heavy rain, does he need a sign to tell him there's 'SURFACE WATER', or can he work it out for himself? Hence the reason for starting this thread...
