Firstly I apoligise if this is in the wrong place, I'm a newbie :D

I read on a site somewhere, although can't find again, that if two traffic police witnessed a driver speeding, this was enough to convict, as with experience they can tell when someone is speeding. Have brought this up on a forum I use, and am getting a lot of stick over this! Also have no evidence to back it up, does anyone know if this is correct?
Many thanks, Justin.

For a successful speeding prosecution to be brought, all that is required is corroborated evidence of the offence. Since a traffic officer is automatically considered to be an expert on speeding in the law's eyes, then one officer's opinion of a speeding car corroborated by another's is plenty to drag you up before the courts.

If you are talking about 2 police officers stood at the side of the road and simply looking, then you'd need something a tad more "scientific" than the word of 2 people (no matter what their occupation or experience) to secure a conviction for speeding.

This very issue is already being discussed here anyway.

Carl is correct, although it's not a very common method of prosecution these days, but we can corroborate each other's opinion of excess speed. In practice it is only used if witnessed speed is excessive, and generally when witnessed on routine patrol rather than conducting a planned speed check.

It does seem worrying, if you can be convicted in this manner. However if you were obviously speeding, say 80 in a 30 zone, past two police officers stood at the side of the road, seems strange they couldn't 'do' you for it.
I just can't find anything official in black and white, there must be a site which would clarify this?

Edit : Just seen IanH's post. Cheers. :D
