I was watching a program on tv the other day , one of those 'cops with cameras' shows, when it featured on it a man who had not informed the DVLA of change of address.

He then must have either commited some kind of illegality and the DVLA tried to send him a letter.

After he hadnt replied for a long time he then had his liscence revoked, all unknown to the driver, who only found out when the Police pulled him over for having 'no liscence'

I moved from my mums house recently, and although the registered keeper to my car is me at my new address, my liscence still says my old address, whats the deal with this, do I need to get it changed and does it cost?

My thoughts were that as long as it is registered to an address that is still related to me ( i.e letters can still get to me) it should be ok? Or is the very fact it does not have the right address on my card illegal and warranting a revokation of my liscence?

Seems a pretty silly reason to revoke a liscence, that should be for poor driving offences only surely?

Anyone help me here please.

Thanks

According to the DVLA website:

The DVLA wrote:
You must tell the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) immediately of any changes to your name, address or both. You can update your driving licence online or send it to DVLA for amendment. A new licence will be issued free of charge unless your photograph’s due for renewal.

I would imagine the guy's licence only ended up being revoked after the DVLA had made numerous attempts to contact him at his old address without success.

(Haven't we been through the issue of changing the address on your licence with you before on here?)

Ok thanks, I am going to do it online today. Btw am I going to get in trouble for not updating it sooner as I have bene living at this address for some time now, but completely skipped my mind that I needed to update it. The address that is shown is still used by a member of my family ( my mum) so any letters would still be recieved.

My main point is, I am not going to get into any more trouble by saying I have already moved for a while am I?

Thanks

Rob

I would't worry, Rob, unless things have changed since I last moved, they don't ask you how long you have lived there or when you moved.

Can someone just clear something up for me about this please. ( I have now changed it).

This person I watched on tv appeared to have had his liscence revoked for this, I was to believe you could not get your liscence revoked once the 2 year period was up, I thought any punishment was in the form of bans, i.e drink driving or getting 12 points+?

Why would it be revoked for a non motoring offence, I mean someone could easily not realise that the address had to be changed.

Plus if the registered keeper is at the new address isnt that all thats needed to send any letters the DVLA write?

Any tickets or letters go to the registered keepers address dont they? I was just a bit worried given I was at my new address a little while before I changed it.

I was also confused because I thought any letters the dvla send go to the registered keeper? Given that my mother lives at the address that was on my lisence card before isnt that accepted? I was just concerned that if she had not given me letters if they had tried to contact me for any reason.

Thanks

Rob
