Just been on the Nottinghamshire pratnership website. Under the "FAQ" section you can see the following:

Q) How come you claim one third of accidents are down to speed, when Goverment figures say 7%?

A) Because our figures include causation factors which are linked to speed, e.g.

Sudden braking
Careless/reckless driving
Tailgating
Behaviour- in a hurry
Loss of control- poor overtaking etc
So our figure of one-third is correct.

And there, dear readers, you have the whole bare-faced lie.

1) I was reversing out of my driveway when a kid shot past the driveway on a bicycle, causing me to brake suddenly.
2) I was careless while parking my car - I reversed into the car behind.
3) I was tailgating a car doing 20mph on a 40mph road.
4) I was in a hurry so I jumped a red light.
5) I was overtaking a tractor doing 10mph, and I crossed a solid white line on a blind bend to do so.

All the above is down to speed? Yeah, right!

By this 'logic': The cause of ALL accidents involving motor vehicles speed related then. If you are moving and you hit something...it's speed related, if you are stationary & something hits you - it's speed related. Therefore all accidents 100% are speed related, including people who sleep at the wheel (moving), drunk (moving), die (moving)..... accident figures can be made to do anything with enough spin!!

OMFG!

Follwing their logic, ALL causation factors are down to speed, since two stationary vehicles cannot have an accident. So why stop at one third?

Despite the name, most "Behaviour - in a hurry" accidents are actually ones where people pull out of side turnings in front of another vehicle rather than waiting, pulling away from lights at Red+Amber and stuff like this. In most cases the perpetrator never makes it up to 10mph before the crunch!!

Careless driving, Tailgating, loss of control can just as easily happen within the speed limit as outside it, and speed cameras actually make the sudden braking problem WORSE!!!!!

The best bit is, when we ask these blatant liars to qualify what they've said, they try to make out that we're the villains just for questioning them. They say the words "Dead Children" and expect us to shut up.

If you're thinking of writing to them, don't waste your time. Write to your MP instead.
