Apart from the airbag issue, why do you detest a horn in the middle of the steering wheel? Why get worked up over such a trifle? I mean, it’s usually in that spot, isn’t it? At least it’s easy to find on a strange model. I can’t use the horn on my wife’s Clio because I don’t know where it is!

There is some kind of darwinist justice in that

Yes - people should be polite to each other. Horns are only to be used to alert other drivers to your presence, not to let off steam. It’s soft to get angry when we can’t make others as we wish them to be, since we can’t make ourselves as we wish to be! Perhaps it is the hand of God, not Darwin, that makes the bag go off on those chumps!

Why do I hate it so much, because you get the Homer Simpsons of this world sat in the middle of a traffic jam banging on the middle of the wheel, tooting the horn, and the agressive idiots doing the same thing whenever the car in front isn't going fast enough.

If it was put somewhere else, these people would have to actually think about what they're doing.

Plus it's embarrasing when you accidentially knock it yourself and people think you're one of the above.

The comment about not being to find it on a strange model is no different to being unable to find the foglights or the demister or the hazard lights. You should take the time to locate all the controls on a new vehicle before driving it. :)

I might relocate the horn again if it is just a case of taping over the horn symbol for the MOT.

Yes. Imagine a big truck backing up towards you, and the driver can’t see you, and you can’t find the horn because it’s not where “it should be”, i.e. in the wheel? That would serve them right for being road slobs!

I tried it today, and I can rest my wrists on the big lumpy bit in the middle, and wrap my fingers around the edge!

But was it a comfortable position, and can you honestly say that your ability to steer was not impaired in any way while holding the wheel like that?

Gixxer you seem to have an issue with this silly point about wresting both wrists on the centre of the steering wheel while having both hands on the steering wheel. to suggest that it impairs steering ability while at the same time you say it is okay to only have one hand on the wheel just does not make any sense at all.

I would say both hands on the wheel gives better steering ability that one, and yes while lighting a fag probably only takes 5 seconds alot can happen in 5 seconds at 80mph.

i think it depends on what model of car you are driving, mine is a Golf and is a comfortable position to drive in. My original post was on topic and was do with the button for the horn being the whole of the steering wheel and me feeling like a idiot whenever i press it by accident.

My car has an airbag in the middle of the steering wheel and the horn is actually two buttons, one either side, so the whole centre rocks slightly as you press the buttons. The cruise control controls are also on the wheel. Damn there must be a fair few wires going round and round every time I turn the wheel... I do hope they are designed not to break :|

My previous car had the horn button on the end of the indicator stalk and I seem to remember pressing it by mistake when fumbling around with things.
