a lot of visitors to london already do park and ride anyway, simply using outlying train stations, this could be encouraged with better facilities etc but the problem is not enough capacity, someone worked out if 5% of car drivers used public transport instead the already overloaded system wouldn't be able to cope, yet it wouldn't make much difference to the roads. Like it or not ken, cars are are vital part of our transport infrastructure.

This is why I always chuckle when people say to me "all the lorry traffic should go on the railways". Like the railways can cope with the passenger traffic already using them.

Railways are a quaint old idea designed for a different time, simple fact is for most transportation needs they can't compete with the point-to-point flexibility and efficiency of road haulage that modern society demands.

nah, just since when do we carry through good ideas? more chance of some preachy nitwit sobbing about how we should all use one system and missing the point entirely.

Well now, Being a London resident, and owning a dirty smelly mud covered off roader (boy does ken hate me!), I respond to a couple of points (sorry no quotes from specific posts) Somebody mentioned "chips in palms" and various other hints of government control over personal movement. I have my chip that logs almost all my movements within the M25 boundary, most of us here in the city do, because if we choose not to have our "chip" we have to pay considerably more for the privelige of pretending to be a sardine standing in a stuffy, overcrowded tube carriage/bus/train. So im tracked when I drive, tracked when I use public transport, and in some areas even tracked when I walk.

Big Brother is not on channel 4, it is here :(

How-do Rangerider! Nice to meet a thorn in Deadrock's arse! If your ride is petrol, de-cat it and really get up The Chav King's nose!

If I had to carry a 'beacon' with me, I would be tempted to strap it to a tortoise and let them try to work out my movements!

Keep up the good work!
