Unfortunately, it seems that everything is done better in other countries nowadays.

We seem to have officious petty minded people deciding on how we live, travel, eat and recieve medical care. Most of us can judge safety for ourselves, those that cannot should be educated, we do not all need to be fined and points added for minor safety infringements. Exceeding speed limt should not be an absolute offence and our motorways shoulld be higher than a 70 limit for cars, vans and lorries.

Our roads and motorways are horrendous to drive down and on now and it is not just about speed it is about the dangerous drivers who cut in and out of traffic, turn right from the left hand lane. overtake waiting traffic to get to the front of the lights etc,.

Sometimes I think I am driving an invisible car.

Y'know Eyeopener, I totally agree. But it doesn't stop with drivers of cars, or the young.

The other day, stopped at a red light, it went green........... and as I started away to turn right onto the main road, a white haired old chap (must'a been 70) in skintight blue biking gear (no helmet) sailed straight across the front of my vehicle as if red lights weren't compulsary for bicycles. He never even looked up or saw just how close he came...........

BTW, this was in LEIGH, so quite local to you. :)

It's a fairly simple message, "Keep left unless overtaking", but we in the UK seem to make such a mess of it.

Surely in Germany it would be "Keep right unless overtaking", just like it is in the UK these days.

Hi Draco, unfortunately you are right. Pedestrians walk out into the roads without looking, children allowed to wander along the edges of pavements etc.

However, drivers are the only target of so called "safety drives" these days. Nobody will attempt to "educate" other groups as there is no financial reward in it.

I remember being told don't go near the road, of being on my bike and stopping at lights, stay away from rivers edges, ponds etc.

I wonder where we have gone wrong, mmmmmm, the mind boggles.

We have lost the plot in this country I think.
