Wow! This road must be so dangerous they had to replace the one Gatso with two Monitrons!

I travel on that road every day. The average speed - apart from next to the cameras - is around 65. The odd person doing 50 "because speed kills" tends to cause irritation.

The only accidents I'm aware of in the last year were some woman who lost control going round a roundabout and crashed into the central Armco. Resulting from incompetence not excessive speed. And some idiot who - in the 40 area further north - lost control, mounted the pavement, mowed down and killed a teenager - then drove off without stopping. Probably resulting from driving under the influence.

Before the cameras were installed, they regularly had talivans on the bridges - notably the one where the monitrons now are (which I doubt are actually working yet). The police also often ran "xxx killed and injured in the last xxx years - extra police attention on this road" campaigns. (I recall one driver who was done for speeding despite the signs, and the obvious presence of police in high visibility jackets.) Now the cameras are the only enforcement. Since they are in a fixed position and painted bright orange, they are little more than an irritant and safety hazard (increased likelihood of rear end shunt as a non-local suddenly notices the camera and hits the brakes). Sorry, I shouldn't have said that should I. After all they are safety cameras aren't they.

Have Stockport published the results of their Speed Limit Review yet, and any proposed changes to this road?

If they are not planning to change it, the Speed Limit Review would provide a good opportunity to write to them with an objection, and request that they increase the speed limit.
