If you look at armco installations you will notice that they have been changed/are being changed.
The ends are not ramped anymore, they are now started with massive square ends with a chevron marked upon it.
Looking at the damage to an installation on the A6 near me....the vehicles impact was initially absorbed, but as the speed drops the vehicle is shunted away from the barrier.
Also: In many cases the crash barrier is not to protect the camera but to protect anyone servicing the installation.

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

Moot point, it is present as a direct result of there being a camera there, and if it carries a risk of bouncing vehicles into oncoming traffic, then it is an unnecessary and unacceptable hazard.

As i drive along I note that practically ALL the armco in Beds is started with a blunt, flat end.
In many cases it is new, so the old installations have been altered.
I also note that the armco is not going to stop or slow down a laden goods vehicle.
And another noted fact....the armco along a large distance of central area of the A421 dual/c is tensioned wire.
I suppose you consider that the central armco is good for stopping vehicles crossing to collide with vehicles on the opposite carriageway. It doesn't do too well for trucks.
But since very few truck drivers pay much attention to the speed laws anyway....unless they are mechanically enforced....I suppose a multi-vehicle-multi-death accident when they cross the barrier is irrelevant.
