I thought this was interesting in that even with a device which makes speeding difficult (the system could be overided by a switch or kickdown) the claimed reduction in accidents was only 20%. What about the other 80% ? Surely this only adds weight to the argument that a one-dimensional focus on speeding is counter-productive.
The recent Think advert showing a biker on a Sunday run who is observing his surroundings closely is excellent, but the normal message they send is that you should drive around with your eyes glued to the speedo. The most laughable was the slow-mo advert of a car locking up, in the dry at 35 mph and skidding all the way into a child. If that is what you call an emergency stop it is hard to see how you could be safe at any speed. Why don't they show realistic situations, that make you think seriously about your own driving technique and awareness.

Chris

Welcome Chris - you asked "Why don't they show realistic situations, that make you think seriously about your own driving technique and awareness. "

Wouldn't that make a lot of people, question the truth behind their campaign and show that it is speed innappropriate to the conditions , that cause accidents, not just speed as a numerical factor. The sort of people who take what this lot say as gospel.
