thanks for all your feedback guys, but sometimes when have been driving, especially on a long hourney, its very hard to keep checking what speed your going at, i personally concentrate more on distance from cars in front of me and weather/road conditions, sometimes i have been driving above the limit but not even noticed that I have been until my sat nav warns me that a speed camera/mobile camera may be there.

I think this is a common problem with many drivers, the hardest is trying to stick to 70mph when there are very few cars if any on the road...

Cannot see a thread/topic re. this, and thought it appropriate here.

The policeman found speeding in his patrol car while "becoming accustomed" to it's characteristics - and taking it to the limit on a motorway and in a 30 limit is to be re-tried!!! :o

Isn't it a shame that in that case the original judge should be similarly judged on the original decision?

If I'm in the wrong thread Paul, please let me know and I'll move it

The software does not have the facility to move a post to another thread. But those issues are being discussed at: http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5819 . You could repost there.

You're playing with fire a bit there IMHO, why risk it by cruising past the talivans at 75, 71 etc. when you can cruise past at 70 or below.

Check in mirror, take foot off pedal on right and unless your driving a V12 Jag the car will slow down, If you are doing silly speed, then check in mirror and press middle pedal. easy :)

Pass Talivan and then resume driving at correct speed for the conditions.

FFS though, don't turn into one of the "stamp on the anchors at the first sign of a camera" brigade, as an artic up the ar*e often offends.

That's not good enough for the scammers, only 100% compliance above all else is enough. See here.

Even 100% isn't enough with the dodgyscope out there. :(

The coppers (and thier bosses) should cut drivers a little more slack, I admit that. But not too much!

Isn't that the nub of this site's argument? That a human being can make value judgements 'on the spot', whereas any speed camera is an automaton without 'grey areas' or 'fuzzy logic'.
The BiB always would cut you slack as long as you were not being a complete prat and I'm pretty sure that every person using this site would rather face a hundred roadside 'chats' from a fellow human being than get a single nasty, viscious, automatically-generated NIP through the post.

Bear in mind 'To err is Human, to f*ck up completely needs a computer...'

mhcd 2000 - Hi, mate. Just do the best you can to manage your speed. As you check your speedo, listen to the car; get a 'feel' for the way it is behaving at the various speeds. You're just starting out on one of the biggest adventures you can experience and there is a lot to learn.
You may well feel that 'They' are out to get you and 'They' probably are. Just remember that We aren't. Most of us 'cut our teeth' before the Government decided it hated the motorist and didn't have to deal with this sort of pressure as a new driver (and a few of us should bear that in mind before becoming too judgemental...). Whatever you do, try to enjoy your driving - fear it and you may as well walk and let the b@stards win...

Yep...and remember-if there's somewhere they can hide a scamera or a talivan then drive as though there's one there.Laybys with HGVs parked in them are a prime example-as are laybys on sweeping bends. Remember Talivans have a very long range for the detection equipment - if there's a corner coming up that so you can't see the road a long way ahead then back off the throttle to within the limits.

That's what the government want you to believe of me. If they get back in I'm emigrating.

Are you still telling young drivers to pay no heed to the limits? I thought I’d had that out with you - where is your outrage now?

Ahem. Bit of a difference between telling someone not to be so judgemental and "telling [them] to pay no heed to the limits".

Of course drivers should pay heed to the limits - I'm sure there isn't anyone here who'd say otherwise - and new drivers should be extra careful. But the poster was concerned about the possibility of a ticket, so why shouldn't he be told how likely (and why) he is to GET a ticket?
