This was (I believe) a 40 limit until fairly recently, but was reduced to 30 in line with Portsmouth CC's policy of reducing all roads on the island to 30 or less :x

I find this kind of policy unacceptble; it undermines respect for an important safety measure.

I bet when they realise many motorists are breaking this limit they will make it a tallivan hotspot.

If that road limit was any more than 30 within the last 4 years then I missed it!
Portsea Island is being converted to 20mph; I might assassinate someone if this road also gets reduced to 20.

How about the A1214 into Ipswich.

30mph for the whole Suffolk Coastal District Council part. One part has a golf course on one side of the road and fields on the other. The road is also streetlit and very straight. 85mph would be a doddle.

the way i slice a ball playing golf, anyone traveling over 20 would think they had been hit a a bazooka

Somehow, I just knew you played golf. ;-)

talking of utter stupidity, I clearly and quite deliberately said "straight and clear" it really would be quite obvious if there were other vehicles or bikes - it's just like a real dual carriageway were you can legally do 60 past a cyclist!

Paul, seriously now, can this fool be deleted? He's got back from a night out clearly tanked up and spoiling for a fight

A number of 60 mph zones around here. The main arterial trunk roads support safe cycling.

What we do notice ist that cyclists do not always use the SAFE path provided which run alongside these very fast roads.

A580 - sister in law take drive on this one often. She say the cyclists will ride on road - yet she say she use the path und is well surfaced und safe. Does not take her out of her way und lead to off -road short cut which mean she travel in record time to Manchester und Bolton.

But to original post... when policeman's act debated on here und PH .. general consensus was that 84 mph in this zone even in wee small hours was very OTT - though we could see - to some extent - the situation on empty motorway.

However, we asked lieber IG - cannot recall if he posted his thoughts on the thread in question - he probably did

but his view ist that his patch take dim view of unauthorised "testing"... as any drills they do to hone und tone their skills are thoroughly risk assessed before any highly supervised und managed drill take place.
