Hi Stephen,

I welcome car drivers who have the same mentality as me. They are obviously 'thinking' drivers with a passion for advanced driving techniques.

However, I suspect you have misinterpreted my posting - I'm talking defensive riding here, not aggressive riding. My mentality is to be defensive, and for that I need everyone to respect and acknowledge my presence on the road.

I'm talking about dominating my road position. I'm talking about being deliberate, such that my desired intention will leave no one in doubt. There are many subtle techniques I can employ, and Paul's Bluff and Cave is a good example. Eye contact is massively important.

One example: This is quite a staggering phenomenon, but if a following car is too close to me, a deliberate, head-tilting look in a mirror will invariable make them back off. It would never work for a car driver, and I'm not sure why it works so well for a biker, but it does. I suspect it's because I'm not anonymous on a bike.

I hope that helps to clarify my posting.
