As said .. look at the sign.. the font. the singular sign on the right. This roas ain't in the UK.

Chunky must give a UK road to support his point of view here ...

I didn't feel the need to argue that. I did notice the font on the road sign wasn't UK standard, but it still conveyed the point he was trying to make (and you can't really see the lack of the other sign on the other side of the road).

Ah.. but there are no repeater lollies anywhere in the photo - and there should be! We suspect a USA rural.

But even so - a parked up van or even a police car would show up like the proverbial sore thumb.

Would a driver be tempted on a road like that? Probably :roil: Would we enforce? :scratchchin: :? if faced with a silly drive on such an empty road? Errrrr! \mmmm. I do not want to give the wrong impression here or lead folk to think they can OTT on such a road in this patch. We do not and have never accepted OTT stupidity on our roads. We think we allow a fair enough margin for professional discretion all the same.. and within reasoned logic. I would not wish folk out there to think we are a soft touch because we do things in a "rather English quaint way!" - because the reality of life is .. we ain't "soft" and never have been .

Depends on the speed (or how far "acceptable" to allow for that "rather elusive discretion" on such an empty road )/driving style/officer's professional opinion based on the situation.

Bear in mind that an FOI will reveal quite a few high speeds given a fixed penalty in the wee small hours up and down the country  Try West Midlands - M6 Toll for starts. Most staggeringly revealing at 3 am! For some "re-assuringly so" and for others - "a right :nono:"

As regards this area - please do not put our RPU's discretionary powers to the test! We are fair - very fair - but do not tolerate nonsense for the sake of it all the same

But back to chunky's comment on the "brightly coloured van". Most are white with day-glo markings on them. Depends on the area. Cumbria uses a very distinct colouring - for example. Our one van is per the photo on the website  I know Manchester has a white van with "lolly signs of :20: :50: :60: " across them... as do others spotted elsewhere on various "sorties to relatives across our green and pleasant land" Can you see these? Oh YES - if you apply COAST systematically at all times . and do note that this COAST systematic approach to driving controls your speed without the need to monitor your speedo IF and only IF you do it [i]properly  (and why I keep banging on about it as I want to spare pain and points on licences and increase safety margins as best I can! Those who really care about road safety and human lives will accept COAST as promoted by most DIS and SAC courses.. and chunky - PLEASE look at the Mad Doc's scan of the SAC assessment (which is similar to DIS criteria and MARKED to C O A (A) S T headings  ) . Those who pay lip service to road safety and have "tunnel vision re speed cam poliicy and who also deride COAST only post as phoneys to road safety initiatives tend to post to indoctirnated soundbites which most have heard and tend to ignore.  Most latch onto COAST as a sound safety measure though.. and why it's now rather more important to promote than a "blanket non-fix of a problem". The Mad Cats have posted up the assessment marking sheet more than once. DIS uses a very similar assessment scheme - but adds a couple of extra headings  It may be stating the obvious .. but too many folk seem blind to the ruddy obvious - and that is part of the problem we need to address here.
