If those other conditions hadn't been the case you might have been done for driving without due care and attention or even dangerous driving as well as speeding.

Now that we have so many speed cameras, Stephen should not be doing speed checks at all.

The increase in cameras has accompanied a reduction in traffic police. speed cameras can only detect one type of technical offence. An police officer is able to use his judgement and experience to recognise those whose standard of driving needs improvement. He is able to either educate or prosecute as appropriate. Inappropriate use of speed may well be one of the criteria he should be judging drivers on, but certainly not th eonly one. He should not be used as a human robot enforcing the speed limit on the basis of numbers.

I would like to ask all of you motorists this question.

What speed do you think that you should be able to drive at in a 30mph limit before you get prosecuted, forget about things like, time of day dry road, no pedestrians etc, concentrate on the actual speed limit.

Stephen

Depends on the police authority. If you are in North Wales or Cleveland (and probably some other areas) you will get a NIP for doing 35 - even if the road is deserted (apart from the Talivan, which is most likely either carefully concealed or not visible until it's too late  ).

In other areas the scamera thresholds are set at more sensible limits. In North Yorkshire and Durham there are no scameras at all, so it's at the discretion of the police if you are stopped. Unfortunately scameras don't use discretion - or take any account of the conditions. Going past a school at breaking up time at 30 may well be dangerously fast for the conditions. Doing 40 on a deserted road may well be perfectly safe.

Here is one limit 20 mph - and the vehicles are clearly exceeding way beyond ACPO guidelines - but in my opinion, perfectly safely, AS THEY DID BEFORE THE LIMIT WAS LOWERED without cause for concern!

The 20 mph lolipop is in the hedge in front of the parked cars!! Not one of the passing cars slows to 20 mph. This is where somebody reported a motorist for sticking to the limit!!!

I finally got the code fixed for the link to the video!! :bounce1:
