Many do when they are in a speed camera area and neglect the road around them to the consequence

Hmm, would you say the same if somebody ran into you?

I'm pretty sure he does, and like everybody else he probably occasionally glances at his speedo to check his speed when it's safe to do so, and in between glances ensures that he maintains a constant speed as much as he can using moderation of the the accelerator.

Going off on a tangent about people staring at their speedos doesn't really add to the debate.

I actually drive and OBSERVE at lot more than you it appears, do you drive a lot yourself? How many years driving and annual mileage do you drive then? if you have never seen people slam on the brakes immediately before a speed camera and then dawdle past it ,only to repeat the same, 100yards later then you obviously don't drive much.

And I repeat, anyone who slams the brakes on when they see a safety camera, girl with a nice bum or attractive shop window display is a crap driver.

If people being distracted by safety cameras is an argument against them then we should remove police cars from the roads because they can cause the same reaction.

Are you going to ignore my question about where, exactly, speed limits are changing daily in most areas?

I notice that B CYCLIST has a habit of having a "dig" at people, well after he thinks they have disappeared, eg in Gear and now myself and then he conveniently "disappears" himself when people come back to "shoot him down"...very good cowardly debating tactic...I don't think!

For once, I agree with you, especially when they slow from the 30 MPH they were doing to 20MPH, just in case their speedo is wrong or they think the camera will get them at 30MPH.

I'm afraid that if you think you can guess at my driving years, mileage and observation from some posts on a forum, then it is you that are deluded. What an extraordinary supposition!

So now, on to your point. You say that seeing a driver slam on their brakes at a speed camera means that "many people stare at their speedos"?

You'll probably have to explain the connection. It does look rather tenuous.

I think b cyclist, like myself, was utterly baffled by ingear's semi-literate post that did not seem to have much at all to do with anything. There was no dig, just amazement at such a childish, irrelevant stream of unmitigated bum gravy.

Nit picking? No laughing at your ridiculous characature of the UK's drivers as people who go round transfixed by their speedo slamming their brakes on for cameras they can't see because they're staring at their speedo!

Despite the continued shouting match I do think that 'non crap drivers' can be drawn to their speedos at inopportune moments.

The majority of the A515 through Derbyshire/Staffordshire is now 50mph (rightly or wrongly) Close to the village Yoxall in Staffs are a pair of potentially tricky x-road junctions that are probably the reason for the limit reduction. Both are now 'protected' by speed cameras. One in particular is a simple x-roads and has a camera each side within sight of the junction and IMHO perhaps a bit close to it. Why? Well I know it's a 50mph limit and I know about the cameras but it struck me, passing them over the holidays, that drivers who don't know the road will undoubtably check their speedo on seeing the camera when for safety's sake they should be concentrating on the junction. Glancing at the speedo when seeing a camera is an understandable response, and in this case means taking your eyes briefly of the problem the cameras were put up to help solve.

If that makes them 'crap drivers' then there are a lot of 'crap drivers' and we stand as much chance of ridding the roads of them as we have of getting KSIs to zero.
