Just seen a prize numpty get pinged by a red light camera... actually one of the red light cameras on the local crossroads I mentioned elsewhere and which I doubted would do much good. I take it all back!
Why a numpty? Because it was one vehicle towing another on what looked like the world's shortest tow rope, and who persisted in hugging the centre even on nice wide roads which pretty much prevented anyone from overtaking them. Also used lane 2 of a short dual carriageway for no apparent reason (normally that bit is used for turning right at the junction or to overtake slower traffic). Thing is though, numpty in the lead car decided to put his foot down to get through the junction on amber. Not too likely when you're towing a van, which is why they got pinged.
Made me wonder though, the van was on tow and didn't really have any coice in the matter, but the reg number of the van is the only one that'll come out on the photo. Will they just send him the ticket or will they contact him and ask for the towing driver's details? Or, considering the short tow rope will they think he's a nutter who was dangerously tailgating as well as jumping lights? Possibly as there was no On Tow sign displayed, just flashing hazards which the photo may not have picked up. And when it turns out that the van was pulled through the red light rather than chased the other car through, will the towing driver get a single ticket or will they both get fined for using a lighter vehicle to tow a heavier one (which was a no-no last I looked, though I don't pretend to know for certain that the car was lighter than the van)?
I'm sure it wouldn't be this complicated if TVP had had a trafplod around to stop 'em.
