Picked this up on the local news earlier, sorry, can't find the story in text at the moment, but here's a link to the video, it's only just gone up on the bbc midlands today site this evening.

Quote:
Police have stopped carrying out speed checks in a village in Worcestershire after a 30mph sign was put in the wrong place.

Officers say they will start checking drivers' speeds again, once the council has rectified the error. Andy Newman reports.

not sure why i'm surprised at this but..... when they say rectified the error, rather than moving the sign they are of course changing the paperwork to match the sign

To be fair to them, I'm not suprised they just fixed the paperwork, it's only 10 yards which is fairly insignificant and pedantic really.

Still, technical offences... can't blame anyone who used this to get off with it. (assuming it is safe to do over 30 there of course)

"I'm very worried about the whole situation as I'm concerned for the safety of the people who use the roads," said Coun Udall.

Quote:
He said the average speed of traffic in the village concerned was 31mph, but said motorists had been successfully prosecuted in the past for speeding.

So by the sound of it, it’s only the odd few who are actually speeding so why is he so concerned for the safety of the people who use the roads. After all it’s the speed that kills isn’t it?

If the average speed was 31mph, then what does that make the 85th percentile?

Maybe somebody should query the entire speed limit ;)
