Hi...

I'm just wondering if anyone knows the actual cost of a single fixed camera and its installation costs on the roads...

Also.. does anyone know how long it takes for the driver to be notified of his offence after he's captured by the speed camera? Like.. on average.

Thanx heaps~

There's no fixed price because of site engineering costs - sometimes power cables are laid over long distances and so on.

A Gatso camera costs about £30,000, then they spend between maybe £1,000 and £15,000 on site preparation.

They have an obligation to deliver a notice of intended prosecution to the registered keeper within 14 days of the offence. If you're not the registered keeper it can take much longer.

Thanks heaps~~!

That's pretty expensive... I would have thought that it would be much cheaper now.. considering that technology improves all the time and prices fall...

Also... would you say that a lot of people get away with paying the fine... by saying that they weren't driving the car at the time..?

So in effect this means they can't place a camera unless it is in a location which will catch at least 1000 people. So much for hoping people will slow down.

You might get away with the speeding charge but unless you can really prove you do not know who was driving you will be prosecuted under s.172 which carries higher fines, the same 3 points and an offence code on your licence which is considered worse than speeding by most insurance companies.

I suggest you visit pepipoo before you do anthing rash.
