Got me new phone a few weeks ago and thought I'd be all responsible and get a car it. I don't get many call in the car, really hardly any. However in my tractor it rings all the time. So what I want is a something that can spend most of the time in the tractor but just be chucked in the car when I need it. I don't want anything that requires me to have any thing stuffed in my ear.

In our combine harvester there is a hand free kit that the phone just sits in and has a power supply, magic. I want something like that, but that isn't screwd into the headlining and can be transfered between (more than one) tractor and car in an instant.

Apparantly this is impossible to find. The phone companies have a frightening lack of kits and interest. When I said to them, "you sell phones, we get points for driving on the phone, where are all the car kits?" the response in Phones4U was "they sell out really quick" well buy more you silly bitch was my thought.

Any ideas?

I would have thought that a 'hot swap' kit would be a bit tricky if its properly integrated into the ICE or internal speeker system.

Personally I'd still go with a 'shove in your ear' one, but if that's not your thing....

How about something like the Jabra SP500, available for £38.39 from Amazon?
It's a portable loudspeaker (pair it using bluetooth the same as a "shove in your ear" thing), and comes with mounting for vents, sun visors etc.
If you want to charge the phone you'll need to sort that separately though..

you used to be able to get a cradle with built-in mike & speaker that plugged into your cigarette lighter (at least for nokia phones)... whether they're still available is another thing.

edit: yes they are: this sort of thing

Similar thing used to be available in motorway service stations advertised for any phone --it attached to heater vents on the dash - well thats what it was intended to do - only say it effective in fiesta vans and focus ---no muke -so placement of phone in noisy area critical, but seperate speaker - ok for a few quid i suppose - specially if you'd use it in pool vehicles.

How about THESE they are paired with the phone (bluetooth), plug into the lighter socket (or wired) and have both speaker and microphone....
They are as simple, or complex, as you would want.....MORE

I used to have one from Halfords that was basically a cradle with a ciggy lighter plug stuck on the back, a speaker on the bottom and a mic on the top.

Sounds like it would meet your crietra perfectly since you didn't state "musn't be a useless piece of shit"

Seriously a poor quality car kit is IMO far less safe that just holding the thing to your ear, since you'll be struggling to make out what people are saying. Do it properly or don't bother. All these cheap plug-in "univerasal" kits are rubbish.

Hmm, I'm thinking that a hands free to my spec doesn't exist. Most of my driving off road so I don't think I can get points for talking on the phone while doing 2.2kph in a field.

Thanks for the input though.
