One of my work colleagues is a French citizen, although she has lived in the UK for 19 years.

She is still driving on her French licence.

I know we're all in the EU, but I thought there was some rule that said that if you lived in another country permanently for over a set period of time, you had to exchange your licence for a local one.

Otherwise, it opens up all kinds of possibilities ;)

Can anyone clarify the situation?

If I recall correctly I had to change mine, albeit non-eu, within 6 months of coming here.

Just had a look here and it seems eu people get a bit longer:

Quote:
* until aged 70 or for three years after becoming resident, whichever is the longer period

edit: err, and thinking about that... it means they don't need to change over at all.

Yes, it does. I was about to point that out :D

So theoretically she could take all my (hypothetical) points, although her insurers might not be too impressed.
