Just came across this on PH (credit to Wiggy001):

Image

The skid marks leading to the graduated markings can clearly been seen. Looks like that road could qualify to be a 70 (is the A20), so why the camera?

Edit: looks like the photo has been removed, luckily I have a copy on my HD.

I've already emailed the originator asking for permission to use it.

I'd love to see what "contributory factors" went down for that one!

OK. I've got a higher res version and the picture is improved no end by cropping.

But what's the caption?

'Speed cameras come with unfortunate side effects'?

'I used to believe that they were safety cameras'?

Notwithstanding that contributory factors aren't recorded for damage only crashes, there's no check box for 'speed camera'. I guess there should be.

Absolutely - but it's clear that the trigger for the crash was the camera, and we never will live in a world filled with ideal drivers and ideal vehicles.

'I thought speed cameras were supposed to prevent accidents?'

I assume this is on the section that is a 50?

While obviously not a local I drove along there a couple of years ago and felt the NSL could have started a few miles before it actually did.

I've got a response from the photographer, that stretch used to be NSL (70), now it is 50 :scratchchin:

"A worried-looking spokesperson for the local SCP said "Imagine the carnage if the vehicle had been travelling at 70mph instead of 50mph!"

That really is a fabulous picture. Couldn't ask for better.

"See - we told you speed cameras slowed down traffic" ...

"Speed Cameras - helping YOU drive safely"

"Police go hungry - takeaway arrives cold"

"Safety Cameras KILL"

Makes me feel bad for not getting a photo of the skid marks by the camera at East Stoke, they were pointing towards the pavement. But being england there was nowhere to park without having someone come up behind wanting me to move and I couldn't go back later as there was no daylight for the rest of the week.

looks like the photographer leaned over to be on the drivers side to take that photo. Hang on, wait, perhaps the driver took it? No, that would be stupid on a road safety site wouldn't it.
