says the cynic in me

This story follows on a tiny paragraph which my kid sisters down in the burbs told me about the other day .. in which the Bolton paper reported that the police in the Leigh area claimed to have copped 213 rogue drivers in this small industrial town.

But perhaps if those repairing cars under insurance did so at the correct and not inflated price (per our own recent experience after Wildy's scary experience on the car park four or five weeks ago - in which we were quoted a correct rate for repair at "own cost" and vastly over inflated and exaggerated estimate if "via the repairer favoured by insurer :furious: - we stood firm... that car was repaired to manufacturer's spec at the dealer's by Jag specialist engineers.. at the right rate for the job!) - then perhaps these premiums may not be so unaffordable for so many. It really is ludicrous that the fine is less than the premium - which perhaps is a reflection on the over inflated pricing of our insurance policies.

I know Paul favours the idea of an insurance levy being charged on fuel. Unfortunately, we cannot ever be sure that this would go into insurance funds. After all .. NHS and Police and "Edukayshun (thrice chanted " do not get the fundings as bandied around by successive governments.. so how can we be sure that any such levy would go into a third party insurance funding scheme.

But .. for all that .. insurance industry does need kicking into touch with reality. On the one hand we have a cycling body panicking over common sense clarification in the Highway Code in case it has a knock on effect on any claims to the detriment of the cyclist as "injured party" and on the other .. extreme premiums in return for actually very little :furious: and "recommended garages" who if they carried out the work as "non experts" would actually devalue and depreciate a fine car even more than current market rate - making the premium fee higher than the vehicle's actual worth.
