Road users put at risk by maintenance funding shortfall


Ninety six per cent of English local authorities have said that road user safety is being put at risk by road maintenance under-funding.

The claims came as the Asphalt Industry Alliance reported that the shortfall in road structural budgets across England stands at £846M, with just 52% of the required budget received.

Based on current funding levels authorities estimate the backlog will take more than 11 years to clear.

The Annual Local Authority Road Maintenance (ALARM) Survey 2007 is based on information supplied by 65% of local authorities in England and Wales.


So what effect is this having on road safety??
