Perjury Judge Faces JailUpdated: 09:52, Friday March 30, 2007
A former judge who blamed a dead woman for a speeding offence faces jail after being charged by police.
Australian Marcus Einfeld - once a human rights advocate - faces a total of 13 charges including perjury and perverting the course of justice.
Last year, a Sydney court dismissed a £31 speeding charge against Einfeld.
He claimed he had loaned his car to an old friend from the United States on the day of the offence.
But a Sydney newspaper later revealed the woman had died three years earlier.
Police subsequently found more than 200 people had used a similar trick to get off traffic offences.
They had either blamed a dead person or someone living in another state.
All had been caught on camera.
