I should perhaps pop this in the Cycling Forum's thread on this.. but it's also just as relevant to drivers.
My sisters down in the burb of Manchester gave this piece from the free rag .. the "Salford Advertiser" By Kate Watkins
Quote:
Salford Council have come up with a crack pot scheme to reduce the city;s
30 yyear pothole backlog They have re-classified their potholes as "cracks"

The Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA) have slammed Salford for having a 30 year backlog for these repairs.

It seems the potholes must meet some criteria to be classified as a pothole.
A pot hole must be two inches deep to qualify as a pothole and when a problem is reported .. they send a team to determine what the problem is.
Jazz tells me one bloke with a tape measure was seen on one road - and Ju-Ju wants to know when exactly will the big hole at the St Mark's roundabout as you exit M60 J13 .. actually be fixed? It nearly took out the suspension on the old Ford Zephyr she was testing.. and her own car (a new Vectra) does not get on with it either

She says it has been there for the past three years .. getting bigger and one day a biker will come off there.

in her opinion.

All potholes are mended within 24 hours ..at a cost of £45
The one at the roundabout has been described as a crater

for past three years
Quote:
Everything else is put on a waiting list wich the AIA say is endangering lives. A lack of funds is blamed for the delay
The AIA say Salford mended 1760 potholes last year and needs more money to repair the roads.
Salford claim they have £22m to improve all roads over a 5 year budget plan and have already improved many roads
Per my sisters .. they say speed cushions and humps.. all bigger in height than 3 inches and that the existing humps are breaking up and are now very dangerous to their kids on their bikes.

Salford leader (Labour) claims that resurfacing every road would take many years.. but this is not the same as a backlog of pothole repair work.

Opposition Conservative for Worsley says she has not seen any repairs in the area and cites several roads which are very uneven because of huge so-called "cracks" and the Lib Dem for another area (Claremont) agrees.. saying people in his ward are waiting 8 months for these potholes to be fixed.
