We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Abolish all
'traffic calming' measures in order to reduce traffic
congestion throughout the Nation's road system.

Congestion is made artificially high by the infliction of
'traffic calming' measures. The removal of bus lanes, chicanes,
speed humps and pinch-points along with sensible timing of
traffic lights would reduce congestion levels and allow the
free flow of traffic throughout our road system and remove the
need for congestion charging and road pricing as well as
reducing exhaust emissions in congestion black-spots.

Come on folks - Do your stuff!

It's a bit of a shame there isn't something in the description about 'dubious safety claims'. It's kind of hard to sign up to something that, at face value, ignores safety for mere convenience.

But the safety claims are dubious - in the last decade we have seen 'speed kills' policies consisting of physical 'traffic calming' speed limit reductions and speed cameras, yet all of this has delivered extremely disappointing road safety results. Deaths and hospitalisations aren't falling anywhere near as quickly as would have been expected WITHOUT these measures.

At the very least, traffic calming makes roads more dangerous for one of the most vulnerable groups - cyclists. Pinch points, chicanes, and "speed bumps" all present considerable danger. For example, it is unsafe for a car to pass a cyclist at a pinch point but, unless the cyclist physically prevents the overtake by adopting the primary position, many drivers will attempt it.
