Just got back from the Costa Del Sol and while driving our Hire Car, we noticed Speed Camera signs but could not see any cameras.

I've looked on the web and can't find much about what happens if you get caught by a camera - do us Brits get away with it ?

I've seen some articles saying that from March this year, the DVLA will be tracking cars caught abroad for the Country in question to collect fines, but points will not be endorsed on UK licences - is this in operation yet ?

However, as this is a hire car, they have my licence details anyway so they should know where to contact me. Does anybody know the procedure is should I get a ticket and what would happen with fines/points. Fine is unimportant, but obviously points are !

All the ones that I've seen are basically "temporary" - they're about the size of a large "wheelie-bin", painted bright yellow, and are usually placed at the side of the road and chained to a substantial road sign (I guess that Spanish motorists are a tad more "proactive" than we are in the UK!). They seem to only have a few which they move from place to place every few days - in fact I'm not too sure that they even leave them in place overnight.

As to whether they get followed up on hire cars for "foreigners" or foreign-registered vehicles, I really don't know, but would suspect that they don't bother.
