Look at the wheels in the photo as loaded up to my hoster by my sister Ju-Ju. She's wondering how come they are speeding given the size of that speed hump. She suspects the vigilantes have a "hand shake" and are thus not recording accurately. She knows - cos she tried it out with the children she .. er . teaches

What details do these "wannabe" coppers record when they encounter a bike with a number plate no bigger than the size of their dick as it rides past?

FFS, this is NOT the answer to road safety.

Dr Goebels would have been proud!

It concerns me that people feel so powerless to change things, as they see it, for the better by the conventional political process that they resort to this type of direct action. I assume that they would all support us, therefore, if we started standing on the pavement just before fixed cameras wearing HiViz jackets holding signs warning of the speed camera. After all we are all in the same boat, aren't we?.

:)

Thought -"another caption competition" , but no, not content with being behind the curtains , the local Neighbourhood watch find that there is indeed no crime here ("Spot check shows drivers sticking to limit")

By the look of the position of these people from the first picture they look as if they are obstructing the footway (pavement). If I wished to pass with a child in a pushchair or my old grannie in her wheel chair what am I to do?

If they refused to move could I call a constable and demand their arrest for willful obstruction of the highway?

I didn't realise people could be arrested for that. It would be rather gratifying to see members of MLOC/OLOC handcuffed and dragged kicking and screaming into the back of a van.

And presumably we could also effect citizens' arrests for the same thing? Finally, the power to do something about those self-righteous twerps.... :D

But their entire actions are meaningless. They have no powers to report for consideration of proceedings, no NiP can result from their efforts and one has yet to hear of anyone receiving a warning letter from them or from the Old Bill as a result.
If a letter were to be received the best thing to do would be to send it back with a note inviting the 'Speedwatch Vigilantees' to form it into a cone, starch it and stick it where the sun don't shine!
Best to just laugh at them - now that's something they would hate. Why not stop and ask if you got 'Fastest Time of the Day'. if not, go back for another run!

Bombus wrote "And presumably we could also effect citizens' arrests for the same thing? Finally, the power to do something about those self-righteous twerps...." Nice idea but alas the Highways Act only gives the power of arrest to a police constable for this one. Incidentally this is the power police normally use to deal with demonstrators who insist in siting down in the road to make some point or other.

The fun could however start if you make a complaint about their obstruction then the police have to investigate and you are entitle to ask about the outcome ofthe investigation action taken etc. and make a formal complaint if the matter is not properly investigated.

I live on the Essex / Suffolk border and we have loads of these idiots about in the villages around me, I usually see them 3-4 times a week in various locations. A friend who lives on the estate near me HAS had a warning letter from Essex police, telling him the community speedwatch had clocked him at 37 in a 30, they advised him to modify his behaviour, and that they would be watching lololololololol

I believe they have been sighted in my village but I haven't had the pleasure.

I had a few words with our local county councillor the other day, she mentioned that she thought that drivers who flash to warn others about speed cameras should be arrested. I said they should be given a medal for public service.

We have a traffic 'issue' in that the village is a rat run or cut through and is swamped at certain times of the day. It could be solved with a little intellegent traffic management and some re jigging of priorities.

Fortunately the local SCP realise that speeding isn't a money maker for them as i've never seen a van and probably never will.

And charged with what offence, exactly? If speed cameras really were about safety, surely she should applaud such actions, which help people to keep within the speed limit and therefore (using the specious arguments of the Scameratsi) improve road safety. If, on the other hand, speed cameras are there simply to raise revenue, then warning others of their presence would indeed be something she might wish to discourage.

And you were quite right.

If I were you, I'd make the most of this in your local press etc.

I can't really be arsed but I do have a good time winding her up.

she's on the lowest rungs of a political 'career' with the lib dems, parachuted into our ward lives outside, kisses backside, toes the party line and was 'rewarded' with an unwinnable nomination for a welsh assembly seat.

completely useless a compelete puppet of her party and the council executive.

we're considering a local non partizan candiditae to run against her. I may stand as an independant liberal for pure devilment to split her vote!!

Which underlines the point that very often what people deep down object to about traffic is not so much its speed but its volume.

But then they all form protest groups when a bypass is proposed

You know, I rather thought she'd be a Lib Dem. In fact, I would have put money on it.
