Did I miss something here? The car didn’t have VED. The trade plates were in his boot. Shirely this means the car was not “road legal”?

Towing for non-VED seems a bit much. I agree there could be some leeway given to brand new cars but now are clampers meant to know that?


The other two clamper vans were not needed, so why did they remain parked on the double yellows?


edit: I wonder if the guy also wasn't insured - well you can't get VED without insurance......

I just don't leave my Aston parked in dumb places.

Just wondering, has the matter of no tax disc been decriminalised? If it has not, is it legal for civilians to enforce it?

So if someone nicks your tax disc or number plates is it then ok for NCP to nick the rest of the car?

I can see plates on the car.

If someone nicks the disk then it's merely failure to display; this car wasn't taxed, which isn't the same. I can only assume/hope that clampers have the means to be able to tell the difference.

He's lucky it wasn't crushed as well. Others have not been so lucky.

I don't know if that would apply here because the owner said the trade plates were in the boot. There were plates on the car which look like normal type registration plates (unregistered private plates I believe).

Yes. Trade plates can be used to drive any motor vehicle in connection with the buissness of the garage that owns them.
And general motor trader insurance would cover that car.

However they should have been displayed. But we all know that they would be nicked if left on a parked car for too long.

The sinister aspect of this draconian enforcement of petty rules is that contempt for those whose commercially heavy hand falls upon hitherto law abiding folks, is growing by the hour. Middle England, as it's called, is becoming totally brassed off with being penalised by private pirates beyond any reasonable measure for petty infringements.

I wonder how long before the anger boils over and one of these carjackers meets with a sticky end from some armed-to-the-teeth drugs dealer who has just seen his precious car hoisted onto a tow truck? - if not already happened that is.....

NAHH, they'll just lift and subsequently detonate a vehicle within which is a bomb with a mercury switch. They'd only do it the once.
