Just took this test on the BBC web site:

Quote:
Here's a sample of 10 questions, set by the Driving Standards Agency, any or all of which could appear in real test.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6976319.stm

Although I scored 10/10 by second-guessing them, question 4 is written incorrectly, so that any multiple of 10 would be a correct answer. They've written "What speed limit may you find in some narrow residential streets?" when they obviously meant "What is the lowest speed limit you could expect to find in some narrow residential streets?" There are some narrow residential streets near me where the speed limit is 60mph.

How do they get away with being so careless in an official test?

Easy. Official tests are now written by non-technical, non-expert, semi-literate graduates (in media studies) employed on the lowest wages that the Government can get away with.

They can do this because there is no sanction against making mistakes and work is not properly checked. (Hey, I nearly said peer-reviewed then. :) )

I thought they where going to make the test harder?

It is a load of pants.

I suppose it is being seen to do something.

The fact that the DSA are an agency of the DfT should give us a clue about their abilities.
