Hi there, I was just flashed doing 25mph in a 30 mph zone, I know I was def under the 30 speed limit and even turned round to check that they had'nt changed it to a 20 mph zone as I travel past this camera most days, I done 25 again and it didnt flash.

Could it have been the car that was following very closely to me, will I still get fined???

Your advice would be most helpful.

All the best sally

Hi Sally.

Given the described indicated speed: unless your speedo is out of allowable tolerance - and by quite a long way (they can over-read but they're not allowed to under-read), it's likely that the camera was an uncalibrated dummy. These are quite common. Gatsos don't trigger until at least a minimum of a true 33-34mph.
However, I would recommend you to check your speedo by comparing the reading against that from a decent GPS, just to make sure.

Thanks for that it must have been the car behind me, it's just annoying when you see the flash in the mirror and you know that you were not speeding.

Thanks again

Best Wishes

Sally

Actually it's likely it WAS your car which set it off, but it should not result in a summons.

The purpose of this is "psychological" warfare - they put a dummy camera in, set it to flash with a hair trigger, and now you are as nervous as hell, is it will slow you down even more for the next camera, and you will probably pay more attention to your speedo.

You should write to your chief constable and explain the circumstances to him, and point out that this intimidation amounts to threatening behaviour, and is affecting your life and driving by causing undue worry.
CC the letter to your MP, and local newspaper, and ask around and see if any of your friends and colleagues have been affected.
