Hi, could anyone tell me if i can purchase something that will alert, or i can set to warn me if i go over a speed limit . I dont want a speed camera detector just something that will make a sound when i go over the limit i set . I have a gps that alerts me when i am near a fixed camera . I want to stay on the speed limit but it is to easy to just wander past 30mph . Can anyone please help .Thanks

Many GPS systems can be set to indicate if you exceed the limit (my TomTom does) BUT it replies on a) you keeping your GPS maps up to date and b) the maps having the limits included. ALSO because limits are constantly being changed even this can't be fully relied on.

Are SURE your TomTom doesn't have that. I have an ols GO "Classic" and on that I have set it to disply my speed and when I exceed the limit it flashes my speed in red. I suspect yours must do that too - if you dig around it the preferences you might find it...

:yesyes: Here's a real example!

Also again, there's the fact that the TOMTOM won't warn you until you are a few MPH over the limit (although I don't know if the warning threshold is configurable).

The VW Golf hire car I just gave back had a feature you could set where it would ding and display a message when you exceeded a pre-set speed, though I suspect this may be a little more drastic a change than you had in mind.

Also, my Origin B2 GPS speedcam detector has the same feature, though I haven't tried setting it to 30 as that would rapidly get on my nerves.

I can't think of any device that does this as it's sole function? How is your electronics? you could make a device that counts the pulses on the speedo wire :)

It's possible to buy aftermarket cruise control/speed limiter devices. A quick Google turned up this one, for example:

http://www.conrad-anderson.co.uk/cruise ... ontrol.htm

Obviously you have to programme the speed yourself - it doesn't have a database of all speed limits.
