At the moment, guidelines say mobile cameras can only be used at approved sites where the accident record is sufficiently serious.

The problem I have with this is that a usual mobile scamera haunt in my area is a main road at the bottom of my housing estate.

If memory serves, me and my family can only remember one pedestrian road death on that very particular stretch of road and that was over ten years ago when there wasnt a proper designated road crossing. Not long after this traffic lights were installed and I can honestly say Ive never heard of a road death there since.

Plus Ive lived in this housing estae for twenty years and its hardly what you would even consider an accident black spot.
The road is in the North East on england in the Teesside area (The B1380).

Im just very curious into exaclty how this stretch of road was approved for a mobile speed camera?
Is there any way of finding this out or even if there is a chance to see the actual road accident rate of this road?

If you ask the local scameraship they would probably tell you the figures. Alternatively if you post a more accurate location I could ask the tooth fairy to look it up in her Big Book of Accidents.

This p*sses me off. it is simply not true the Police can be put anywhere at any time.

BUT the partnerships cannot get the money back.

Yet another lie by the partnersips to try and spread their cancer.

Here is a link to where it usually is on the B1380.

The speed camera is always between Birchington Avenue and Lackenby Lane.

As you can see the real reason for why they have one there is to catch people coming off the A174, since there is a sudden drop from national speed limit to a 30 zone.

Plus does anyone actually know what the guide lines are for a mobile speed camera.

Under the rules, at least four collisions per kilometre involving death or injury must have happened in the previous three years before a fixed camera can be installed.
For mobile cameras, it is two collisions. But even when a road has had the required number of collisions, police must also prove that at least 20 per cent of drivers are breaking the limit.

Pure, unadulterated Bullsh*t :!:

Well after a bit of investigation Ive found that the stretch of road Im enquiring about just qualifies for a mobile speed camera.

In the three years previous to 2000 there were two roads deaths on the B1380 and about 12 injuries.

No information on who it was, under what circumstances, exactly where it was (the B1380 is a long road stretching through much busier parts).

Also the funnier thing is there have been zero road deaths since.
I find it hard to believe that a mobile speed camera which appears at only certain times of days twice a week made the difference.

Absolute joke, it simply isnt an accident black spot, it never was and it never has been yet it merits a speed camera.

Sounds a bit RTTM, but no doubt the scamera is getting the credit.

Spotted one of Northamptonshire's mobile Talivans this morning. I checked the website to see if the location was listed. It wasn't. Same thing happened in Nottingham a few weeks ago.

What's the score here? Should I make a complaint - if so then who to and what's the likelihood of anything getting done about it if I do?

Have taken the opportinity to write to the contact on the Northants Scamera site asking for an explanation. I await a reply with interest.

Camera location: A5199, Northants on 40mph stretch between Thornby and A14.

Link to webpage (can see them editing this!)...

Hi there,

This was definitely a Northants site with a Northants talivan, not listed here.
